Matt... do you seriously mean to tell me that that helicopter shadow doesn't ruin the entire film for you? I mean after that the whole tension of the piece is shattered and even Nicholsons fine acting can't make up for it. Lets face it the film should have been called `The Shadow` and not `The Shining`. I mean aren't you just sitting blankly watching that whole blood-coming-out-of-the-lift scene just ceaselessly thinking about that damn helicopter shadow.

As I said I think we should recall all known copies and burn the lot of them.

What's more 2001 is just a joke now. I mean there's no way we've got that kind of technology to go and do that kind of space travel and it's already 2002. Either the film must be renamed to something like 2594 (a far more likely date) or I think we should get teams of people to scratch the images off every celuloid reel and get our grannies to tape over every known video of it with something like `The Bill` or `Friends`. Some DVD's could be allowed to remain but only if they were accompanied by an overdubbed commentary which couldn't be turned off explaining continually what an idiot Kubrick was for believing this kind of thing would be possible in 2001 and notifying the audience that the film is a complete and utter joke and should mostly be ignored whilst they should perhaps be making dinner or something else far more 2001`ish. Chris Tarrant and Michael Burke (from that 999 series) would be perfect for this.

Hairbrain you're not giving Kubrick or 2001 their due credit, hell you're not giving them any credit. You spend way too much crapping at the film beacuse the technology isn't possible when you need to realize 2001 isn't about the technology, in fcat its more spiritual then technological.
2001 is not a joke, its a master film, it doesn't matter if its called 2001 or 2002 or 2341.
The helicopter shadow was annoying but people focus on such little things and analyze them to . God ca't you just sit down and watch the film and not have to make such a big fuss over it? Why is it that exposure people have to overemphasize every little detail and completly ruin the film for evryone who just watches them to be entertained?

Not sure, But I think in the new DVD editions of the shining they CGI'ed the shadow out. Honistly,I've seen much worse bloopers in other films(like the poking boom mic scene in badlands)
